Guest Speaker – Jim Buker – Jim has been the minister at the Greater Springfield church of Christ in Chicopee Mass since November 2015. He started just two weeks after completing the 6 month 2,200 mile Appalachian Trail hike from Georgia to Maine.
The lone trek while supported by friends and loved ones gave ample and continuous opportunity to draw closer to God and further cement the calling to full time ministry. Along the trail, filled with stories revealing God’s hand of mercy, protection and provision he came across 3 black bears including a mother with cub at night with 15 feet, numerous black rat and black racer snakes, 5 rattlers, a poised for strike Copper head and numerous deer and up north several moose in the wild.
Jim was the director of the Timothy Hill Christian Camp in the foothills of the Berkshires for 5 years with his trusted ambassador Jade the part pit, part boxer rescue who made virtually hundreds of friends among visitors and neighbors alike.
In addition to working in business for 30 years, Jim was on the Monson fire department, rowing instructor on the Ct River and Spinning instructor for 10 years.
In addition to 3 wonderful grandkids, Jim has 3 beautiful daughters, each of which joined him among the 8 building mission trips to Mexico and Honduras. Most happily married to his lovely wife and sister in Christ Maretta, she is a highly valued RN at a nearby hospital and cherished by many.
